Dr. Atmika Paudel, PhD these...The information in the following article regarding the effects of lactoferrin on yeast, bacteria, viruses, immune function and safety issues is medically accurate.
Lactoferrin is a protein substance derived from colostrum in breast milk. It is also a cytokine and chemical messengers responsible for the human immune response, protecting us from tumors, cancer, other infections and foreign pathogens. Low levels result in immune system suppression and high levels can lead to an overactive immune system.
As the name suggests, also lactoferrinit has the ability to bind iron, which is used by many foreign pathogens, cancers, and yeast and other fungi for growth and reproduction.
Lactoferrin helps with Candida yeasts
Dr Suzanne Noble of the UCSF School of Medicine found that Candida is also usedthe iron molecule as a means of growth and development of its biofilm. This iron binding effectof lactoferrinIt helps starve yeast, bad bacteria, or tumors so they eventually die without harming good bacteria that don't need iron to survive.(Those ones)
Candida albicansIt was found to be inhibited due to its unique abilitystimulate scavenger cellsthat eat candida yeast and other alien organisms. It has also been found to have an effect on Candida cell cell membranes and mitochondria.
In 2004, infectious disease microbiologist Antonella Lupetti, along with seven other colleagues in the Department of Infectious Diseases at Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands, found that lactoferrin worked synergistically with fluconazole against fluconazole-sensitive individuals.C. albicanstrunks tooC. glabrata,C. krusei,C. Lactoferrin contains specific molecules that aretoxic toBacteria, yeasts and molds of all kinds. It also inhibits the growth of HIV and other viruses such as herpes. Has the ability to kill and dissolveH. pyloriInfections that cause stomach ulcers.
Staphylococcusaureus,Escherichia coli, EKlebsiella pneumoniaeall of which can cause serious illness are inhibited by lactoferrin.

The section and studies mentioned above on the antifungal effects of lactoferrin are clinically relevant. The glycoprotein lactoferrin has multiple functions and is effective against different types of fungi and yeasts. Bioactive peptides derived from lactoferrin also exhibit potent antifungal activity. The three most studied peptides are lactoferricin, lactoferrampin and LF(1-11) (1). In 1993, Nikawa et al showed that lactoferrin had an antifungal effect on Candida albicans and Candida krusei. They used techniques such as supernatant protein assays and scanning electron microscopy to find surface modifications on Candida membranes that were sensitive to apo, ie the free iron form of lactoferrin (2).
In 2019, a study was published in BMC Microbiology in which bovine lactoferrin derived from Lactobacillus casei showed antifungal activity against fluconazole-resistant Candida albicans strains in mouse models of vulvovaginal candidiasis (3). These, along with many other studies, demonstrate the antifungal role of lactoferrin alone or in conjunction with antifungal drugs.

Lactoferrin is antibacterial and antiviral
Studies conducted in Japan on mice revealed asignificant reductionharmful bacteria and in particular the pathogenic bacteria known as Clostridium. Tests also showed that it restricted harmful bacteria that could pass through the intestinal wall and enter the bloodstream, preventing serious illness. The positive impact onhard clostridium,a bacterial infection most commonly associated with antibiotic use, confirmed by molecular biologist CH Chilton of the Leeds Institute for Molecular Medicine and published in the journal Antimicrobial Chemotherapy in 2016.(Those ones)
Other experiments showed an inhibitory effect against HIV and herpes simplex 1.
Because a person with normal levels of lactoferrin secretes the substance in other body fluids. It has been found to prevent tooth decay and eye diseases.
A 1999 study in Japan showed that lactoferrin inhibited hepatitis C virus viremia in patients with chronic hepatitis C.Those ones) However, a 2006 study showed that it had no viral effect in patients with hepatitis C.(Those ones)
Lactoferrin boosts immune function
It not only stimulates the activity of phagocytes, but also of neutrophils, which are the main T cells responsible for defending the body against Candida and other fungi. The function of macrophages is also increased along with lymphocytes.
Lymphocytes are another type of immune cell that secrete antibodies and directly attack foreign pathogens. One type of lymphocyte is known as a natural killer cell, or NK cell for short, and NK cells can kill Candida yeasts in 6/100 seconds. When an NK cell latches onto a target and attacks, the target always dies without fail.
Other studies in Japan in mice given a highly metastatic type of cancer significantly slowed the growth and spread of the cancer. There are many theories as to why it works in cancer, from its ability to bind iron or its ability to bind to receptor sites on the cell. However, increased lymphocyte activity is also responsible for the death of cancer cells.
There is also evidence that it suppresses blood vessel formation, which stops the cancer's food supply. Whether or not all these things happen does not detract from its proven effectiveness.
There have been some notable cases of cancer remission in terminally ill patients. One such woman in New York with lung cancer made an incredible recovery in a matter of weeks, gaining 30 pounds and increasing muscle strength.

Lactoferrin is mostly found in body fluids such as milk, saliva and semen and has also been specifically observedneutrophilgranulesby polymorphonuclearleukocytes(1). Its presence in saliva is also used as a biomarker for neurological diseases (neurodegenerative and neuropsychiatric diseases, such as autism and Alzheimer's, Parkinson's and Huntington's diseases) (2, 3). It has also been found in retained gingival fluid and implicated in periodontal disease (4).
Interestingly, treatment with bovine lactoferrin liposomal solution (supplemented with zinc) has been found to facilitate rapid recovery in COVID-19 affected individuals and their primary contacts due to its significant immunomodulatory and protective role. This study was published in the International Journal of Research In Health Sciences in 2020 (5).
Therefore, it is quite evident in the literature that lactoferrin plays a prophylactic and therapeutic role in terms of its bactericidal, antifungal, antiviral, antioxidant, immunomodulatory, cell growth modulating and binding activities. In addition, it also neutralizes some bioactive compounds, such aslipopolissacarídeo(LPS) eGlucoseMinoglycanS(1). Its protective role against Streptococcus has also been discussed by altering the host's immune response and protecting the host from a number of serious illnesses such as pneumonia, meningitis, endocarditis, periodontitis, skin and soft tissue infections, prematurity and neonatal sepsis (6). .

Is lactoferrin safe to take?
In very high doses, lactoferrin can cause skin rashes, loss of appetite, fatigue, chills and constipation.
It is absolutely safe when consumed in food.
Pregnant women should avoid lactoferrin supplements until more information is known.
Lactoferrin under review
In my personal opinion, lactoferrin is far superior to colostrum and most other immunostimulating substances, except perhaps beta-glucans.
As good as it is, it is not an end in itself and other beneficial candida yeast products should be taken with you. One of them that would be more effective and not allow Candida yeast to develop resistance isBiofasecomProphase. These three products would be a very effective and safe treatment for almost all yeast infections.

The facts mentioned in the above article are correct, and the article includes the results of several scientific experiments, however, the references from which the results were discussed were not cited in all cases. I would recommend the author to include the citations to make the article more persuasive and satisfy people who want to delve deeper into these literatures. (concluded)
In a review article published in the Annual Nutrition Review in 1995, it was mentioned that lactoferrin levels in milk from different species vary widely, for example, lactoferrin is present in high concentrations in human milk, while a low concentration is found in cow's milk milk . (1)
The same review article mentions the rationale and hypotheses for how and why lactoferrin has antimicrobial properties. The role of lactoferrin as a growth factor is also discussed in the publication.
As mentioned in the article above, as an iron-binding protein, lactoferrin can prevent the proliferation of microorganisms and has been linked to the treatment of candidiasis, cancer, herpes and HIV discussed in another review article published in The Indian Journal of Pediatrics ( 2), which discusses the components and functions of colostrum, and lactoferrin is one of the components found in colostrum.
